INTELLIGENT HOME MANAGEMENT, STEP BY STEP

We understand implementing new home automation technology in your home can be challenging. Here we will lay out a serious of logical steps which may be helpful in facilitating the planning and decision making process of your automated home.

Don’t worry if you don’t completely understand all of this, just contact us and we will be happy to answer all of your questions and help you determine the best digital home solution for your home.

1 Home Control Integrated with Home Entertainment or Stand-alone?

Integrating your home control (Cortexa) and home entertainment (Media Center) systems delivers the true digital home, with everything at your fingertips and one simple user interface on TVs, touch panels, webpads and PCs.

The Cortexa system does not have to be integrated with Media Center and comes with the same intuitive My Home interface on its own.  You may also start with just the Cortexa system and integrate it into Media Center later.

2 Which Home Control Sub-systems?

We all have different priorities on which systems we’d like to automate depending on our objectives of making our homes more convenient, more secure, or saving on utilities.

Here is the list of most common systems to automate to help you decide.  Off course you may automate some now and some later.

Lighting Distributed Audio Surveillance Cameras
Security Climate Control Irrigation
Audio Video Appliances (Remote Controls)

3 Locations and Specific Devices to be Automated?

Decide which lights to automate, where you want audio, camera locations, which AV components you want to control through the system.  Again, you may do some now and some later, Cortexa offers complete flexibility for a phased implementation.

4 Planning & Pre-wire

Determine the locations of all major components.  In new construction situations you will have total flexibility to locate components and devices wherever you want, typically installing wiring after the framing stage of construction.  In retrofit situations, compromises are sometimes made to facilitate the pre-wire.  Even for a multi sub-system Cortexa implementation, there are only a few wires that need to be run.  Refer to the Cortexa Installation Pre-Wire Guide for information on the wiring required, detailed by sub-system.

5 Sub-system Selection

For all sub-systems to be implemented, determine which specific products you will utilize.  Decisions may be made based on cost, functionality or even the ergonomics of devices.  Again, we are here to advise you and help you make the right decisions for your home.  Click here for a list of all products currently supported by Cortexa.

6 Installation & Implementation

Having completed the pre-wiring and made the key product selection choices, your Cortexa Home Control system will now be ready to be implemented.  Here is an outline of the implementation process.

  • All components and devices are physically installed in your home (light switches, thermostats, security panel, audio distribution system, cameras etc)
  • The Cortexa 7202 Home Controller is connected to your broadband internet service and all sub-systems are connected to the ports on the Controller.
  • Rooms and devices are set up in the Cortexa Home Control system, with everything just as you want.
  • Events are now written in the Cortexa system to automate your home exactly the way you want it, making it more more fun, more convenient, more secure and one that helps save on your utility bills.
