  • What can I control with this system?
The most common home systems that our systems control are; lighting, HVAC, security, distributed audio, video cameras, irrigation, and audio video appliances such as TV, DVD, DVR, CD etc.

  • Can I access my home remotely?
Yes. This is one of the great benefits of a Cortexa Technology system. Wherever you are in the world, as long as you have access to the Internet, you can control and monitor your home just like you were in your own Living Room.

  • Can I install this in my existing home?
While it is always easier to install these systems in new construction environments, it is very possible to install the system in an existing home. All homes are different, and the degree of difficulty is dependent on what sub-systems you intend to automate, and the layout of your home.

  • Can I install some parts of the system now, and some later?
Yes. Our systems let you install in a highly modular fashion. Automate what you want, when you want.

  • Will this help reduce my utility bills?
This is obviously dependent on how you use the system, but yes, this system is a great tool to help manage your home more efficiently. The system will automatically turn off lights when not required, adjust thermostats to save on heating and cooling, and even control irrigation to help conserve water. It will also provide detailed information about every device in the system.

  • How will I access and control the system?
Access is through one or more of four options; a touch screen mounted in a wall, a portable touch screen, a TV, or a PC or Mac browser. All feature the same highly intuitive, user friendly, interface that you will master in a matter of minutes.

  • Do I need to use an expert or be a programmer to set it up and make changes?
No. We designed all aspects of the system to be easily controlled by the homeowner. Whether you are dimming a light or programming a cool new event, you will find it highly intuitive and pick it up very quickly.

  • Are there any on-going monthly charges from Cortexa Technology Inc.?
Absolutely none. Unlike many competitors, when you buy a system from us there are no on-going charges whatsoever.

  • As you enhance your software, how do I get updates and what is the cost?
You will simply update your software on the Internet and it is free. We want you to have the best possible user experience and providing new software enhancements free of charge is a key part of that.

  • I have an existing home network, how will this system work with it?
The Cortexa 7202 includes a network router and will control the network in your home. This is a unique feature of our product. We are not aware of any other product offering this feature. If you have an existing router, to get the most out of your system, you should re-configure this as a switch and have the Cortexa 7202 function as the router.

  • Do my current light switches and thermostats have to be replaced for this to work?
Yes. As with any home automation system, the controller must be able to send commands and receive feedback from each device. Standard light switches and thermostats are not capable of doing this. These devices are replaced one for one with "intelligent" devices.

  • How much does it cost?
Cost will vary significantly dependent on how much of your house you intend to automate, and what systems you wish to include. As a guideline, you could expect to install a reasonably well configured Cortexa system for approximately $5,000. You will find comparable systems from competitors much more expensive, often up to ten times this amount.

  • What type of Internet connection do I need to use the system?
A broadband connection, cable or DSL, is required. Also, should you wish to control the system using the mobile touch screen then wireless Internet will also be required. This is easily and inexpensively achieved through the use of a Wireless Access Point.
